I had the distinct pleasure of meeting him once in person, an unforgettable afternoon! His translation of Neruda’s Song of Protest in a treasured volume in my collection of memorable poetry!

I have that book too, from way back.
We knew each other over the years. His co-founding of the Nuyorican Cafe is a major contribution to NYC but especially to Latino/a poets, performers of all kinds over the decades.
