The Motherbond Principle: Finding the Mother and the Child Within

Pioneering feminist thinker Ana Castillo is the author of the groundbreaking book on

Xicanisma , MASSACRE OF THE DREAMERS (1994; new edition, 2014.)  Her theory, which she referred to as the “Motherbond Principle” proposed the connection between mother and child as the fundamental principle for all social relations.  The renown and moving essay, “My Mother’s Mexico,” (BLACK DOVE:  Mamá, Mi’jo, and Me); 2016) in which she addressed her own relationship with an indigenous migrant mother demonstrates the power of our ancestral traditions and teachings that transcend the times.

Dr Castilllo’s memoir writing workshops are a combination of discussion and exercises and prompts in which all participants are encouraged to find the kernel in their truth from which to tell their stories.  In her workshops, we will laugh, cry, and write.
